Weather Reflections

So yesterday saw the hottest day of year so far. Temperatures hit 33.7C at Heathrow. The Met Office's Twitter account also confirmed that it was the hottest since July 2006. Parts of the UK were hotter than Barcelona, Cape Town, Mumbai and Venice. The previous hottest day of the year was 22 July when the 33.5C peak was the seven-year high.

Despite the soggy end to last month it was still the hottest and driest July on record since the summer heatwave of 2006, forecasters have confirmed. Despite the super warm weather 2013 still can't compete with the blazing heatwave of 1976 when everyday between June 22 and July 16 temperatures reached 26.7C or higher.

The sweltering weather prompted bookies to offer odds that August would be a record-breaker. Ladbrokes offered 8/1 that August's hottest temperature would surpass the UK's August record, of 38.5C (101.3F) on 10 August 2003.

The weekend is set to remain changeable with temperatures around the 24C mark but accompanied by occasional showers.  Lets see what the rest of August will bring...
